Happy Monday, everyone! What have you been reading?

Some books Hillcrest HS students have read lately are : Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Freeze Frame by Heidi Ayarbe, Bonechiller by Graham McNamee, Crash Course for the New SAT by Jeff Rubenstein, and The Football Book by Sports Illustrated. As for me, I finally finished reading Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

  1. Molina Students are reading as well. We started the million word challenge October 15. I wish I had known about the Dallas Cowboys challenge since it began on the 18th. I could have combined the two into one.

I am reading Linda Joy Singleton's Dead Girl Dancing. When I finish I will have exceeded 700,000 words myself. Having to read review books has really helped my reading numbers.

  4. While at TWU in Library School, Dr. Betty Carter told us about the stages of reading. One stage is "unconscious delight" when kids devour books - usually books in a series, adventure stories, mysteries, animal books, horse books...For me it was horse books, Nancy Drew, and the Bobbsey Twins! I think about that every time I'm reading Sophie Kinsella's Shopoholic books and thinking that perhaps I should be reading something more substantive! Here's to unconscious delight!

  5. Several reading classes at my school are reading the Hunger Games. I plan on adding a copy to the library collection. The reading teachers at my school say that the students are really getting into the story. This trilogy seems to be very popular, and I will not be surprised to see it become featured in film.
